Narrative

In accordance with its mission statement, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (A&T) is committed to fulfilling its fundamental purposes through exemplary undergraduate and graduate instruction, scholarly and creative research, and effective public service. [1] The university seeks to admit potential applicants who will be challenged and prepared to meet the complex needs of a global society.  This necessitates exemplary and relevant educational experiences that are inherently global in nature and interdisciplinary in focus.  The commitment to excellence and the unique  A&T legacy of nurturing the individual student remain strong.

Admission policies are disseminated through the Web site and the Undergraduate Bulletin and Graduate Catalogs, and are consistent in all publications. [2] [3] [4] [5] Admission policies are consistent with the university's mission and its goals to meet the demands of a global society. The university offers degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels with emphasis on agriculture, engineering, technology, nursing, education, and the social sciences [6]. As one of North Carolina's three engineering colleges, the university offers PhD programs in engineering and interdisciplinary studies to propel our students to excellence. Basic and applied research is conducted by faculty in university centers of excellence, in inter-institutional relationships, and through significant involvement with several public and private agencies. The university also conducts major research in engineering, transportation, and its extension programs in agriculture.

The admissions criteria for freshmen varies between in-state and out-of-state applicants. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions publishes the criteria for in-state and out-of-state, as well as transfer and special students [7].

Distance Learning Programs [8]: Undergraduate students must enroll in twelve or more semester hours to be designated as full-time students. Graduate students must enroll in nine hours to be designated as full-time students. The Center for Distance Learning recommends that students consult with their advisors before enrolling in more than two online courses per semester.  Distance learning students enrolled in online courses have access to the following technical support services: Blackboard Demo, Online Course Access Info, and Blackboard Student Training.

Students who have been admitted to the university and have submitted the Distance Learning Student Agreement Form or registered through Aggie Access Online are able to access online courses in Blackboard after their bills have been paid and validated.  A confirmation email that includes login information is sent by the Center for Distance Learning to students who register using the Student Agreement Form.

Freshmen who wish to enroll in distance learning courses must have permission from their academic advisor.
